WHY HAVE A RELIEF SALE

Since when is helping people around the world this much fun?

Each year in Canada and the United States, thousands of volunteers come together to raise money for MCC for the relief of suffering in the world. Over $5.5million was raised in the U.S. in 2011 with an average of 88 percent sent to the field. MCC is the relief, service and peace agency of the North American Mennonite and Brethren In Christ churches. MCC reflects the biblical call to care for the hungry and thirsty, the stranger, the sick and those in prison.

Many churches join together to set up food booths, accumulate items for an auction, provide children’s activities, and organize other kinds of booths to raise funds for MCC. Having the community atmosphere of a festival, a relief sale invites the general public to “give to Jesus” since all proceeds from the sale go directly to MCC. These festivals/auctions offer a little bit of everything – quilts, artwork, crafted woodwork, homemade foods, antiques and crafts. Often there is music and lots of fun activities for kids including an auction just for them.
